The Galloway BreedThe Galloway is actually one of the oldest and probably one of the purest of our native cattle breeds. A very hardy animal and can live well off the poorest of land, which would have made them essential for our forefathers in the highlands or on fells and hill farms in northern England. The Galloway female is ideal for suckling and the breed produces excellent beefy calves. These days the old long established breeds like the Galloway are in much demand for their taste and texture, not to mention their superb creamy milk. Our cows are Belted Galloway's which come from Galloway in Scotland, and a breed called Blue Albion, a very old British Breed. You might say the original ‘blue cow' as they are blue. The calves are Limousine/ Belted Galloway crosses. |
