Hagg End Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast

Welcome to Hagg End Farm, Windermere, with its traditional Cumbrian farmhouse which is over 350 years old. Hagg End now offers friendly Windermere bed and breakfast accommodation. Hagg End Farm is still a working farm which enthrals visitors with a taste of countryside living at first hand, ideal for escaping to the country. Though the Farm is set in a rural location it is still just 2 miles from Windermere, 4 miles from Bowness and 7 miles from Kendal by car.

Hagg End Farm is located on the Dales Way and Westmorland Way footpaths (they go through our yard). Alternatively there are a number of other local footpaths giving good access to the local countryside or for an outstanding view of Lake Windermere, School Knott is just 20 minutes away. For more energetic visitors, Hagg End makes an ideal pitstop for cyclists, with a local cycle route passing the end of our drive.

Visitors staying in the bed and breakfast can choose from either a spacious double bedroom or a King sized suite with private sitting room and en-suite bathroom. The King size suite is ideal for families as it can sleep up to 5 people.

Breakfast is a full English, or if you prefer something different just ask. We also provide evening meals from either a set menu or take pot luck and eat with the family. All dietary requirements can be accommodated.

Picnic lunches are also an option that we offer if you want to go walking or cycling for the day in the Lake District away from the maddening crowds.

Troffers is a family run tearoom situated in the heart of the picturesque Lake District . Only 30 minutes walk from the centre of Windermere we are the ideal stop off for some well deserved refreshment.

Ramblers, don't worry about the mud on your boots, we offer a very warm welcome to all those using the Dalesway.

Troffers prides itself on using local produce and keeping all food miles to a minimum when sourcing the ingredients for all the meals and refreshments on offer. With home made soup prepared fresh everyday and good old fashioned cakes and mugs of tea and coffee, locally made ice creams and a good selection of sandwiches, you really will be spoilt for choice.

The Tearoom is part of the family's working farm. We hope everyone with dogs and children will respect and enjoy the animals.

We aim to produce good quality food with thought to the way it is raised and fed. For instance the pigs are on a diet of grain sourced from Flookborough where it is grown and milled. The pigs love it. We also get some grain from a local brewery, once it has been through the brewing process. It is still full of goodness, but don't worry the pigs won't get drunk. This diet of good quality feed is the reason our pork is highly regarded by our customers, who upon tasting comment, ‘it's the best they've ever had'. We are very proud of our pork and feel that now we have a winning formulae it is time others started to enjoy it.

The sheep and cows are on a diet of grass. In winter they are supplemented with Hay, haylage and silage along with some hard feed. Once the grass starts to grow again they don't need anything else. We put this natural diet down to the high quality of meat we produce. We hope you agree.

We are making good old fashioned sausages. Our aim is to produce food with very little added, unless natural and flavoursome. No preservatives, colourings or artificial flavourings. Sausages just like your Granny used to make.

We are also going to make lamb burgers, using our own home produced meat and mint from the garden.

We also produce our own jams and chutneys. We make Damson jam from damsons picked in the world famous Lythe Valley only a few miles away. As the jam is hand made we can only make so much a year so please don't be disappointed and order early.

Once the Damson season is over so is the jam making. We do try to take all the stones out of the jam but some may be left. (Ingredients : Damsons, jam sugar with natural pectin).

The chutney is made with locally produced damsons and apples depending on the type. The apples are so local in fact they are from our garden. We believe the apples are a type of old English bramley. Excellent for chutney, apple sauce and pies. Again we only make the chutneys in season so order early to avoid disappointment. (Ingredients: Old Fashioned Apple Chutney, apples, sultanas, vinegar, oninons, brown sugar, salt, pepper. Damson Chutney: same as above but with damsons).

For those people who like their Sunday lunches we will start putting on a full roast with locally sourced vegetables and our own home produced meat. We will let you know when these are to start.
